PGSuper Custom DOT Configurations
|
PGSuper's default installation includes optimized configurations for WSDOT, TxDOT and AASHTO/PCI |
PGSuper’s flexible library and template system allows you to configure and share PGSuper for virtually any Department of Transportation (DOT), agency or precast producer. Configurations put predefined girder sections, standards, and design policies just a few mouse clicks away.
At BridgeSight, we make PGSuper easier. This page is dedicated to creating and sharing PGSuper library and template configurations that help get your job done faster. The map and table below lists available configurations for a growing list of agencies.

FAQ
How Do I Set Up PGSuper to Use the Configurations?
For the configurations hosted here at PGSuper.com, follow the Step-by-step instructions in this tutorial.
For configurations hosted elsewhere, refer to individual agency pages for detailed set up instructions.
What Is a Custom PGSuper Configuration?
When a new project is created from a well-designed custom configuration, nearly all input data is predefined. Designers often only need to input the correct bridge geometry and proceed directly to final girder design. Our Beginning Tutorial demonstrates how TxDOT uses template files to quickly create girder designs.
A PGSuper configuration consists of two parts: the master library and template files. The master library allows input and storage of design parameters to be shared with other PGSuper users. Design templates provide a starting place for creating new project files, and are linked to the correct master library.
Can I Use PGSuper for My Agency?
PGSuper's flexible parametric library should support any agency that uses the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications. But, if a custom configuration is not available, you will end up inputting much of the data by hand.
Where is a Custom Configuration for My Agency?
PGSuper comes preconfigured with girder shapes and design specifications for AASHTO, WSDOT and TxDOT; and here at PGSuper.com you can find a growing list of configurations in the table above. If your agency requirements are different, you can configure a new custom configuration in a modest amount of time. BridgeSight Inc to is developing configurations for various agencies, but these things take time – this is where you can help…
How Can I Help?
The libraries and templates at this site are created by a community effort. As a member of the PGSuper user community, you can help by:
- Sharing your custom libraries and PGSuper project file(s) for a state DOT or other agency. Simply send your files to us and we will post them.
- Letting us know if there is a DOT custom configuration that you are looking for – we might be able to help you find it. If not, BridgeSight Inc. can develop custom configurations for a reasonable fee..
- Offering suggestions to improve this site, pointing out errors and omissions in our custom configurations, and by being an active participate in the PGSuper user community. You can contact us here or leave comments at the bottom of this, or any configurations page.
Quality Rating System
A typical PGSuper configuration contains hundreds of design input parameters. This means that you don't have to enter each parameter for every project - that's the power of configurations. However, the quality of configurations can vary. Agencies like WSDOT and TxDOT have spent many hours testing to insure that their official configurations exactly meet their design intentions and specifications. Other configurations may not undergo this level of scrutiny.
The rating system below to help engineers quickly determine the quality of the configurations listed at this site.
| *Rating | Description |
|---|---|
OFFICIAL |
Configuration is generally posted on the owners web server and has undergone throrough testing by DOT staff. PGSuper's automated design algoritm usually generates optimal designs. |
MATURE |
Configuration has been refined and reviewed by engineers with agency project experience. Multiple girder designs have been verified using secondary sources. Designs may require hand optimization. |
DRAFT |
Configuration was created based on a cursory review of the agency's web site. Section properties of girder sections have been verified. In most cases, a generic version of the LRFD project criteria is used. |
*Note that this rating system is not a substitute for good engineering judgement. All designs and calculations from PGSuper should be always be verified using secondary methods such as hand calculations or other design software.
